February Interior Design Inspiration

The February Edit

Thankful for leap year and granting me one more day to get this in. This months inspo is heavily driven by my main aspiration for the year - to simplify. I yearn for learning how to actually feel balanced with the many facets of my life (I’m sure most of us struggle here). For real, do you think it’s actually possible to get there? A gal can certainly try. And so, I’ve dubbed this year “Operation Simplify” (how Spy Kids of me).

You might be thinking, how will I strive to achieve this? For starters, I’m focusing on getting REAL intentional about what’s important to me and what I want my life to look like. Next, I’m working on letting go of aspects that no longer serve me - enter perfectionism and imposter syndrome. Life is far too precious to have these time sucks that detract from living positively. Next, I’m focused on getting better at boundaries and time blocking. It’s so easy to just keep going and going with the never ending to-do list, but there is a time and place. No need to feel guilty when downtime is needed. I’ve already felt a huge shift with this alone (insert super hopeful feelings here). Lastly, re-focusing on being present. I’ve noticed, when I slow down and do things moment to moment, time seems to slow down and my days are exponentially more enjoyable. One of my favorite ways to get centered back to feeling present is walking barefoot outside when it’s nice out. For the love of God, I am beyond happy the good weather seasons are right around the corner. Who else is with me - in both warmer weather and simplicity?

Here’s some key pieces that have been serving some serious inspiration this month. Let’s dive in..

  1. Decor with a twist - I’m really enjoying pulling styling pieces that come in an interesting material. As pictured, this cool kiwi green marbled chess board is a cool touch for a game or coffee table. Playing with unexpected material can help bring some pretty visual interest. We like to go for different!

  2. A modern fireplace - So long super traditional or stark contemporary fireplace surrounds. I’m loving integrating a mildly ornate fireplace surround, but with a modern twist. I love the fluted look of this inspo and the layered dimension the design provides instead of it being stick straight floor to ceiling. There’s a lot of room to have fun here.

  3. Pared down workspace - It’s so easy to go nuts with custom cabinetry. I like the idea of getting down to the necessities, eliminating the desire to collect clutter, especially for a work environment. I like this simple work surface. Honestly, do we really need MORE? Pull out your pen + paper, laptop or a sketchbook, throw on some music and let the inspo flow.

  4. Tropical tones - Ok, so with warmer days on the brain and my honeymoon around the corner, I’m in a tropical state of mind. I’m day dreaming of daily spa-like showers surrounded by some seriously stunning coral tile. Am I in Hawaii? The Florida Keys? Who cares with this instant transportation to a warmer state of mind. I’ll take it. Serious excellent start to the day.

  5. Airy + Peaceful vibes - Bringing it back to the FEELING of a space. Nothing ruins a peaceful space more than chaotic clutter. To help aid with this, there’s been a LOT of purging and donating in our home. Circling back to simplicity, less is more and the feeling is great!
