June Interior Design Inspiration

The June Edit

Who knew it would take a heatwave to feel so inspired? With crushing 90 degree heat (I love it) and my recent honeymoon to the Dominican Republic (also loved it), I’m feeling all of the tropical beachy get-away vibes. As someone who is perpetually cold (should maybe check this out?), I often feel I was meant to be born on a tropical island (ah Hawaii, my favorite place) and not a native New Englander. This factor lives within my soul and it scratches into my very own design vibes, especially now during the hot summer months. Let’s scratch that itch, shall we?

There’s something about the happiness from warm, bright and crisp colors. Or even, just diving into bold design choices and going for what feels right with your personality for your home. Less about what everyone else is doing, more about what feels like a spark of who you are. With the carefree summer upon us, I challenge you to live as authentically to yourself as possible and invite that feeling into your home. Don’t think too much about it, just go for it!

Here’s some key pieces that have been serving some serious inspiration this month. Let’s dive in..

  1. Colorful countertops - This is such a cool way to bring some serious heat to a space in a refreshed way. I can see this implemented within a bar space for that extra oomph of color. You can take this and spin it into a preppy look or go edgy a little rock and roll. I like the latter route.

  2. Out there outdoor showers - Let’s admit that everyone loves outdoor showers (you’re lying if you disagree). Why not give them a design worthy moment? Have fun with color and pattern play to make it a space you can enjoy tenfold more.

  3. Tropical colors - Offset crisp whites with warm climate colors: Kiwi, coral, aqua’s. I can see a summer house Kitchen with white walls, integrating one of these vibrant colors for cabinetry and natural woven light fixtures. Instant mood booster of a Kitchen and definitely swoon worthy.

  4. Tiled waterfall island - This is an interesting take on an island and a neat way to give the piece some personality. Typically you will see a lot of millwork or a solid stone to cap off the end of the island for a design feature. However, I really like this as a minimal way to give the space personality without going too wild. This multi-colored look can be accomplished with different style/colors of porcelain or stone.

  5. Natural murals - Murals derived from nature are an interesting way to bring the outdoors in. People are generally happy when spending time outdoors, so by bringing this inside, we’re apt to have extra happiness served up on the daily. I know you could see me parked here on the regular enjoying my morning smoothie and a dose of a tropical state of mind.

February Interior Design Inspiration

The February Edit

Thankful for leap year and granting me one more day to get this in. This months inspo is heavily driven by my main aspiration for the year - to simplify. I yearn for learning how to actually feel balanced with the many facets of my life (I’m sure most of us struggle here). For real, do you think it’s actually possible to get there? A gal can certainly try. And so, I’ve dubbed this year “Operation Simplify” (how Spy Kids of me).

You might be thinking, how will I strive to achieve this? For starters, I’m focusing on getting REAL intentional about what’s important to me and what I want my life to look like. Next, I’m working on letting go of aspects that no longer serve me - enter perfectionism and imposter syndrome. Life is far too precious to have these time sucks that detract from living positively. Next, I’m focused on getting better at boundaries and time blocking. It’s so easy to just keep going and going with the never ending to-do list, but there is a time and place. No need to feel guilty when downtime is needed. I’ve already felt a huge shift with this alone (insert super hopeful feelings here). Lastly, re-focusing on being present. I’ve noticed, when I slow down and do things moment to moment, time seems to slow down and my days are exponentially more enjoyable. One of my favorite ways to get centered back to feeling present is walking barefoot outside when it’s nice out. For the love of God, I am beyond happy the good weather seasons are right around the corner. Who else is with me - in both warmer weather and simplicity?

Here’s some key pieces that have been serving some serious inspiration this month. Let’s dive in..

  1. Decor with a twist - I’m really enjoying pulling styling pieces that come in an interesting material. As pictured, this cool kiwi green marbled chess board is a cool touch for a game or coffee table. Playing with unexpected material can help bring some pretty visual interest. We like to go for different!

  2. A modern fireplace - So long super traditional or stark contemporary fireplace surrounds. I’m loving integrating a mildly ornate fireplace surround, but with a modern twist. I love the fluted look of this inspo and the layered dimension the design provides instead of it being stick straight floor to ceiling. There’s a lot of room to have fun here.

  3. Pared down workspace - It’s so easy to go nuts with custom cabinetry. I like the idea of getting down to the necessities, eliminating the desire to collect clutter, especially for a work environment. I like this simple work surface. Honestly, do we really need MORE? Pull out your pen + paper, laptop or a sketchbook, throw on some music and let the inspo flow.

  4. Tropical tones - Ok, so with warmer days on the brain and my honeymoon around the corner, I’m in a tropical state of mind. I’m day dreaming of daily spa-like showers surrounded by some seriously stunning coral tile. Am I in Hawaii? The Florida Keys? Who cares with this instant transportation to a warmer state of mind. I’ll take it. Serious excellent start to the day.

  5. Airy + Peaceful vibes - Bringing it back to the FEELING of a space. Nothing ruins a peaceful space more than chaotic clutter. To help aid with this, there’s been a LOT of purging and donating in our home. Circling back to simplicity, less is more and the feeling is great!

January Interior Design Inspiration

The January Edit

For the most Mondayest month of the year, here we are getting our inspo thoughts out there right at the end of the finish line. I’ll admit I’m a masochist for living for the thrill of a self-imposed deadline (thrill, anxiety..something like that). Maybe I’ll add it to the New Year’s resolution list, we’ll see.

Over the years I’ve grasped at the excitement for jumping into New Years resolutions, only to realized most were unfulfilled come the end of the year. The issue is that resolutions are half-assed. They’re either a blip of a thought or a spoken word that’s drifted away, never to be seen again. My friends, let me tell you, I’ve found a method that works better by tenfold! For the last almost decade, I’ve practiced dreaming up intention lists and vision boards. This is more than just a resolution, it’s a completed desire that your heart wants to bring into your life, but only if you’re ready for it. I’m so excited for this New Year and to share how I work this into my daily life so you can to. So let’s cheers to the year ahead!

Here’s some key pieces that have been serving some serious inspiration this month. Let’s jump in..

  1. Interesting Vases - I have been drooling over vases and vessels with an intriguing architectural element. Much like this photo that has an organic shape and detailed carvings. It makes it feel fluid and soft. The point is, let’s give the basic glass vases a time-out and break out the fun!

  2. Mocha, Mocha, Mocha - Being a New Englander in the dead of a gloomy winter, I am just leaning into the lush and moody mocha family. Let’s bring a little bit of that heavy feeling into the home and balance it with warmer undertones (not trying to go full emo here). These colors would be stunning in a bedroom or anywhere you’re looking to feel a bit more relaxed. Hell - If I had a library I would go full blown with this vibe.

  3. Wallpaper Moments - I’m a big fan of utilizing wallpaper in different ways. I really like the idea of breaking up your regularly all painted Mudroom with something of interest. This wallpaper orientation does just that. It provides a pop of life in a normally not so thrilling drop zone.

  4. Quirky, but make it Elegant- I’m not shy about how much I love quirk. Hell, I know all about being quirky. I love embracing the different and the slightly weird. This wallpaper from afar looks like an elegant toile paper, but upon closer look it’s animals dressed up for a ball. It can be really fun to play with an off-beat wallpaper in a Powder Room (wow Guests), Playroom (a space meant for creative play), or a Dining Room where you’re trying to off-set the seriousness and formality of the space (gotta love juxtaposition).

  5. The New Neutral - If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s the constant revolving door of the current neutral paint palette. At one point it was greys (yes, I spell it with an e, I just like it better that way), then crisp whites, and now it’s all the creams. It’s kind of like watching someone grow out of their emo phase in high school to a happy and functioning adult, where once colors were cool, now we’re wanting warmth. Don’t worry, greys will come around again, but for now, I’m loving the creams. A few of my favorite Benjamin Moore colors are: Swiss Coffee, Ballet White and Feather Down.

  6. Gallery Wall - Simply digging the eclectic and rich look of a layered frame gallery wall. This is an opportunity to go thrifting, mixing old and new and really having a ball with pulling photos and art together.

November Interior Design Inspiration

The November Edit

Can you believe that the holidays are just around the corner? It is hands down my favorite time of the year. Although, I LOVE the warmer months, I have a special place in my heart for the slower pace of the cooler months.

It’s not just the joy that comes from spending time with loved ones, but having the opportunity to reflect on life as we slow down. This is a great time to think about the abundance in our lives, assess items that no longer serve us, and spend time getting intentional about what works or doesn’t work in our lives. Think - what is taking up meaningless space in your home and make a plan to donate it (Remember it is GIVING season). Overall, find ways to simplify and use spaces more intentionally.

Here’s some key pieces that have been serving some serious inspiration this month. Let’s jump in..

  1. Transitional Moments - Doorways and halls are lesser thought of areas of the home, but are integral for carrying us from one main living area to another. These locations help to tell the story of what is going on with one space and how it connects to the next. This is a great opportunity to create interesting elements that help marry two spaces together. Or it could be just adding extra detail to make the walk that much more enjoyable.

  2. Stools - Alright, someone has to say this, but the Serena & Lily stools are SO overdone. Stools can be a really fun component in design for an easy moving piece that functions as both a footstool, side table, you name it. But we can get a bit more creative here. I love thinking outside the box and this marble example does just that. It’s a pretty twist on this multi-functioning piece. Strive to be different!

  3. Smart Storage - It is so important in design to use space wisely. I love the idea of turning a space that is an afterthought into a space that adds positively to a clients life. A couple ideas, extra slim storage on the ends of cabinetry where more cabinet filler might normally go or storage for baking sheets/cutting boards within cabinet toe kicks.

  4. Suggestive Art - I love swapping out wall art throughout the seasons. To help with cost, you can keep this to one key area that you might want to swap out every so often to go with the vibe of the season. I love this minimal art, it works perfectly as it portrays bringing people together and having a joyful time. The intentionality of this art is sure to bring the warm and merry into your home.

  5. Fireplace Tile - This fireplace SCREAMS cool (how ironic). The overall fireplace is tiled head to toe in a pretty modern shape plus the cool blue tone is simply stunning. The end result gives off an effortless cool mood.

October Interior Design Inspiration

The October Edit

It’s safe to say that the month has been a whirlwind as I’m just getting around to sharing some design elements that have inspired me lately. With summer far in the rear view, I’ve been feeling the strong pull to curl up and hibernate. This immense desire leads me to needing a few key pieces in my home for cozy season.

Here’s some key pieces that have been giving me major inspiration over the last month. Let’s dive in..

  1. Cool tones - Where I naturally gravitate towards warm and happy colors. This past month I’ve been really leaning into cooler colors with a bit of moodiness. This is to be expected around this time of year when we get the natural urge to want to relax and slow down as days start to become darker. And you know what? I’m here for it!

  2. Shades of Glass- I am really digging different color variations for glass items. These accent tables are stunning. I’m seeing this sort of color play in a lot of lamps, candle sticks and other small decorative items. This is a fun way to incorporate a hint of color within your space.

  3. Paper Mâché - Chefs kiss to the artists that put interesting spins on everyday items. I simply adore this table lamp. It’s a cool way to pull in a textural element into your home (always about the texture). The mustard stripes kick it up a notch by adding some fun personality.

  4. Pronounced Trims - Neutrals don’t have to be boring. We can bring some serious interest with super contrasted piping or big chunky stripes.

  5. Unexpected Color - I love the concept of having hidden pops of color as a cool surprise moment. Not everything needs to be so obvious within our homes, what about the overlooked places? Let’s turn our attention to these afterthought locations, making sure to bring joy to more areas of our lives.
